So the week got off to another fun start. Only if I could remember my splits from Monday’s work out for you guys. I think it went something like 5:08, 75, 75, 75, 76, 75, and 5:12. My times were a little more consistent then the week before, because my coach paced me through the workout, which is not something I can do on my own. I felt good again, and with the rest of the week pretty easy, I thought I would feel real good race day.

So the rest of the week kind of flew by. I did almost no thinking about the race, which is usually a good thing. I thought I was ready to go in the middle of the week. I watched Run Fat Boy Run the night before the race which gave me some motivation, but as some of you guys know, my mind drifted away from getting business the night before, and even morning of. All in all I really didn’t even want to race Saturday, even though in previous weeks I could not wait for this day.

I think this may of contributed to my performance, even though I really didn’t have a horrible race. At the line I started out very conservatively, and stayed relax even with the influx of runners racing to the front, who shouldn’t of been racing to the front. I didn’t get worried and casually made my way through the pack, and by the time I got into the woods I was right into position. I crossed the mile in 5:19, a tad bit faster then I wanted too, but felt good. Most people who saw me at that point said I looked like I was ready to go. But I didn’t want to really. It sucked having that feeling, but I had no desire. I think I was in around 12th at this point, and just sort of maintained that spot. As far as I concerned I just wanted the race over.

With a mile to go though I had a reason to run. Sitting in 12th or 13th I had a train coming for me, which didn’t bode well if I wanted a place in the state meet. I knew they were getting close down the front stretch, and I may of picked it up just enough to get the job done. I out kicked on kid down the home stretch, but another 2 or 3 kids passed me. I ended up finishing in 17:33, in 13th place. I qualified to the big show and that’s what mattered.

I can’t wait for states. If everything shakes out ok for me this week, then I still think I can produce a big race. It’s about time I run a better race I think. It has been a long road since summer started, and I know I can run faster then this. It is just a matter of everything falling together right for me.

With no one else from Poland qualifying for states, it will be an interesting week of training. I haven’t had real training partners all season long, but this week could be real lonely. I know that tomorrow (Monday) Henry Loughlin will most likely be training with me through a speed workout, which will be much appreciated, and I am looking to work out with a team for a day in the middle of the week. I think the little things like these will set up for a good race Saturday.
