State Champion Spotlight: Bethany Sholl (Scarborough HS)

State Champion spotlight: Bethany Sholl (Scarborough HS)

What were your preparations leading up to the state meet?

To prepare for the state meet, I specifically focused on eating a lot healthier and staying hydrated. Keeping my thoughts positive and training with my team also helped me to get pumped up for the race.

How did you deal with the pressure and emotions that come along with competing in a state meet?

I stayed relatively calm by prayer and listening to music. During meets, watching my teammates race always helps, and they're always there to make me laugh

You were able to win the 2 mile by pulling away over the last couple of laps. Talk about the race, and were you able to your race plan?

It was a very tough race honestly, but having Katherine to run next to definitely helped to push me through it. I went in to the race knowing there was going to be great competition, so my plan was to stick with them and pull away near the end with anything I had left.

You were able to help you team to the state title, what did it mean to you to win the team title?

My team winning the state title was a very special and exciting experience for me. I couldn't be more grateful to be part of such an incredibly talented team. Everyone put their best effort in their races, and it was really cool to watch it all pay off.

Coming into the season what were your goals and did you achieve them?

I didn't achieve the specific times I was hoping for this season, but I'm looking forward to getting there in the upcoming seasons. I definitely put a lot of emphasis on states, and winning the 2 mile was a goal that I am thankful to have completed.

You won the 3200m outdoor title a year ago, and now the 2 mile title indoors, what will your focus be during the outdoor season?

I'm really excited for this outdoor season as a chance to get some new PR's. I want to try to improve my 800, 1600 and 3200 times, train hard, and race my best.
