Salute to Seniors: Julia Labbe (Leavitt HS)

Name: Julia Labbe

School: Leavitt Area High School

What was your most memorable race?

My most memorable race would have to be winning the race at my home course this year with seven other teams competing.

Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?

I would consider Maddie Taylor and Laura Parent of Marancook my biggest competition. We were always pushing each other every time we raced against one another.

What was your greatest accomplishment?

My greatest accomplishment would be holding the course record at the Oxford Hills course all four years.

If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?

If I could do it all over again I would take summer training more serious and do more strength.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

The most difficult obstacles I had to overcome was the heat during the summer and the first few races, and the right mental mindset going into the bigger races.

What will you miss the most?

I will miss seeing the familiar faces, I will miss competing with the other athletes that I have gotten to know over the past four years, and my coach being there to cheer me on, as well as my teammates.

What advice would you give younger athletes?

The advice I would give younger athletes is do all of the training, but to also make sure you have fun. After looking back I realize that I had my fair share of bad races over the past four years but the memories I had with my teammates is what really means the most to me and is what I will really carry with me for the rest of my life; Not that one bad race

What influence has your coach had with respect to your performance and overall life goals?

My coach has always pushed me, and he has always shown the he believes I can do anything I put my mind to. There were a couple times where I second guessed myself, but he was always there to reassure me that I could do it. He was there for me on and off the xc trails. I knew that if I ever had a problem I could always go to him. In the future I would like to be and coach and as a runner he has inspired me to be that fun, high energized coach because that's who he is.

What are your college plans?

I will be attending Plymouth State University to major in psychology and I will be continuing xc, swimming, and track.

Who would you like to say thank you to?

I would like to say thank you to my teammates and my coach for cheering me on every single race and being there to cheer me up if I had a bad race. I would like to thank them for also making these past four years of xc the best four years. The energy, the attitude, and the hearts of these people is what made us a family. Nothing will ever compare to the memories I have made these past four years of high school cross country.
