Everyone will be chasing Orono in Northern Maine Class C, the Red Riots are fresh off a 19 point effort to win the PVC Class C title last week. Orono is the class of the field, and has 5 of the top ten 5k times in the field. Last week in winning PVC's they had seven of the top 12 finishers overall.

There looks like there will be six total teams advancing to Twin Brook next weekend, so they battle for the next five slots should be good. Greater Houlton Christian Academy on paper is the next best team with a 19:28 team average.

George Stevens Academy the PVC runner-up will contend for the runner-up plaque, they have a a 19:36 team average this fall.

Limestone/MSSM, Washburn & Mattanawcook Academy are the teams that are expected to be in the top 6.

Brendan Penfold of Deer Isle Stonington is the individual favorite, on the year the senior has a best 5k time of 16:26.19 which he ran at FOC en route to a twenty place finish. On the season he has 5 wins including last week's victory in the PVC Class C conference meet where he scored a 10 second victory. He will be looking to improve upon his runner-up effort from last fall.

Expect Orono junior Jonathan Steelman to be the one challenge Penfold. Steelman has a best time of 16:48 on the year, and last week finished 10 seconds back of Penfold at PVC's. Jonathan has one win under his belt this fall, along with three runner-up finishes. He finished 7th in meet a year ago.

Others to watch for are Evan Merchant of Jonesport Beals who ranks third best in the field with his 17:26 5k best. Merchant finished 9th in the regional last year. Jonathan Spencer of Orono was just 6th at the PVC meet a week ago but has run the fourth fastest time in the field this fall of 17:27.

Joel Bond of Hodgdon is the only other runner in the field that has run under 17:30 this fall, he has a best effort of 17:29 on the season.

Matt Keresey who was third at the PVC championship, and 5th a year ago is running the best he has all fall. He ran 18:23 at FOC, and a week ago was 17:56 at Orono, that should translate into a low 17 minute effort if all goes well for the senior.
