Brunswick Boys Win A Thriller, Mt Ararat Girls Prevail at KVAC Class A Championship

The Mt Ararat Eagles girls pulled out less than a 4 point victory in the Class A KVAC indoor track & field Championship at Bowdoin College on Saturday. The Eagles prevailed scoring 130 to 126.5 for the other Eagles, Messalonskee.

The Eagles were led by senior distance standout Katherine Leckbee who accumulated thirty points with her three victories. Leckbee took the mile in a time of 5:36.06, as she conserved energy for her two others races. In the 800m she led a 1-2 with teammate Sara York as she broke the tape in a time of 2:30.74. To close things out she ran her fastest 2 mile of the season an 11:54.70 to win by close to nine seconds.

Speaking of Sara York she played a key role in Mt Ararat winning the team title. York won the high jump with a 4-10 clearance, and then took second in the 400m dash in a time of 63.14. As previously mentioned she came back to grab eight more points in the 800m.

Sophomore jumper Wyley Fitzpatrick came up big as well earning victories in the long jump (15-10 1/2) and then took the triple jump with a leap of 33-10 3/4, a personal best.

The relays added a pair of second place efforts, as did Hope Langworthy in the pole vault with her 8-6 clearance. 

Emma Wentworth lead Messalonskee's shot for a title as the junior won the 55m (7.72) and the 200m (27.46). In the 200m teammate Jacey Richard was the runner-up (27.91)

Charlotte Wentworth added 10 points with her first place finish in the 400m as she broke the tape in a time of 61.41. In the 55m hurdles Jacey Richard added another win for the Eagles as she a set a personal best 9.11. The other individual winner was Libby Breznyak who cleared 9-0 in the pole vault

Messalonskee swept the relays winning the 4x800 (10:46.21) and 4x200 (1:52.02).
