Kate Hall Wins D1 Long Jump National Title, Brittany Bowman Wins D3 5K Title

Kate Hall got off to a tremendous start at the NCAA D1 Indoor Track & Field Championship as she clocked a personal best 7.17 in the 60m trials as she qualified for the finals. Her time was the third fastest overall in the semifinals. That mark broke her own school record of 7.22 that she set in the SEC Championship meet.

In the long jump the defending outdoor national champion took little time to establish herself as the one to beat. Hall leapt out to 21-6 1/4, a mark that was good enough to win the event. On her second attempt she extended her best to 21-11 1/2, before leaping a new indoor personal best 22-1 on her third attempt. Hall lead a historic 1-2-3 sweep in the long jump with her teammates Keturah Orji (2nd) & Tara Davis (3rd) to secure 24 points for Georgia who leads the competition after day 1 with 33 points.

In the men's 800m prelims Lewiston native Isaiah Harris qualified for tomorrow's final as he won section 1 in a time of 1:47.87.

Tufts senior Brittany Bowman won the 5k at the Division Three Indoor Track & Field National Championship as she dominated the field over the final 600m to pull away for a 5 second win. Bowman's winning time was 16:31.32, a new Tufts school record. Over the final 600 meters Bowman dropped the pace from 40 seconds a lap down to 37,37,35 over those laps.

Also in the 5k Sophia Canning of Dickinson and formerly of Waynflete placed 9th running 17:13.21
