It was a clean sweep for the Old Town boys and girls on Saturday as the Coyotes hosted 11 other schools in a Penobscot Valley Conference meet at Victory Field.

The boys eked out a 154-144 victory over defending Class C state champion Orono, while George Stevens Academy finished third with 101 points.

Rounding out the top five boys' finishers were Bangor Christian (49) and Bucksport (47).

Deer Isle-Stonington junior Brendan Penfold, who had an outstanding cross country season, kicked off his spring campaign with victories in the 1600 and 3200.

Penfold was timed in 10:41.56 in the 3200 and 4:54.35 in the 1600.

Another double-winner was Bangor Christian's Austin Keib, one of the top throwers in Class C, in the shot put (43-8.25) and discus (137-9). Orono's Tony Manev also claimed two victories in the long jump (19-1.75) and 200 dash (24.98).

While Penfold, Keib and Manev were the lone individual multi-winners in the boys' meet, paving the way for Old Town were individual champs Dominic Graves in the 110 hurdles (16.57), Travis Spell in the 100 dash (12.21) and Elijah Veilleux in the triple jump (38-9.75). Veilleux was also second in the long jump.

In the girls' competition, Old Town's margin of victory was a bit wider as it bested Orono 190-155, with GSA (76), Greater Houlton Christian Academy (36) and Houlton (29) also finishing in the top five.

Orono, the defending state champions in Class C, featured a pair of individual winners in Camille Kohtala and Lauren Melanson.

Kohtala topped the fields in the long jump (16.7.25) and 200 dash (27.21) while Melanson was victorious in the javelin (89-5) and discus (100-10).

For Old Town, Oliviah Damboise helped lead the season-opening team victory with two individual wins, clearing 8-6 to claim the pole vault and posting a mark of 34-5.75 in the triple jump.

Emma Hargreaves and Claudia Damboise proved to be a formidable 1-2 punch in the throwing events for the Coyotes, going 2-3 in the discus and 1-2 in the shot put, with Hargreaves throwing 35-3 to win the shot.

Other individual champs included Cymeria Robshaw of Penquis in the 100, Mary Richardson of GSA in the 1600 and Bucksport's Addie Morrison in the 400.
