High School Freshman / Sophomore Girls

No one was better than freshman Sofie Matson a year ago as she would win the first freshman/sophomore race, and record the fastest time of the day 18:20.70. Matson who missed the outdoor track season with injury is back healthy, and started her season off with a dominating win on her home course last Friday. Matson is the favorite to repeat on Saturday, and back up her MileSplit50 #1 ranking.

Matson's teammate Karley Piers finished second in last year's race running 19:11.15, and figures to be primed for another top five finish on Saturday. Piers finished 5th in her opening meet, and ranks MileSplit50 #11.

Defending Class C champion Olivia Reynolds of Maine Coast Waldorf placed 8th a year ago in a tome of 20:53.83. Reynolds showed she is very good shape with her 20:48 on a tough Poland course last week. She enters the meet ranked MileSplit50 #12.

Bonny Eagle freshman Delaney Hesler has turned heads in her first two races. Hesler placed third against a very strong field at Falmouth last week. She ran 19:50 for three miles on a difficult course, running just three seconds back of her teammate Ami Beaumier. Hesler surged up the MileSplit50 rankings to #8 as a result.

Yarmouth's Maddie Marston is another new name to watch. She won at Sacopee Valley last week clocking 19:49.30 for 5k, and will be challenged by this talented field.

Another runner to watch for is Deering sophomore Sierra Aponte-Clarke, she clocked a 20:47 in her first race of the season.

Mackenzie Turner of Cheverus finished 10th a year ago and is back.

Also watch for Scarborough freshman Megan Randall & Bonny Eagle freshman Emma Pendleton.

High School Junior / Senior Girls

While the freshman/sophomore race most likely will post the fastest time of the day, the junior/senior race should be a great one as well with many talented athletes in the field.

MileSplit50 #2 Lily Horne of Freeport the defending Class B state champion will be one of the top harriers in the field. Horne placed third in the junior/senior race in 2017 running 19:04.40. She opened her season with a second place effort at NYA in what was more of a tempo effort.

Gorham's Kate Tugman has been on fire this season, she opened with a win at the SMAA Relays, followed up by another vcitory at Scot Laliberte Invitational, and added her third win of the season last Friday as she ran 19:51 on a tough Marshwood course. She currently ranks MileSplit50 #3 and will have home course advantage.

Bonny Eagle didn't run in the meet a year ago but the high powered Scots the topped ranked team in the MileSplit50 girls rankings has an all-star line-up. Leading the way will be MileSplit50 #7 Ami Beaumier who opened her season winning the senior race at the SMAA Relays, she followed that up with a strong 19:47 effort at Falmouth where she was second only behind Matson.

Beaumier's teammate Christine Toy is another top competitor. Toy is currently ranked MileSplit50 #10, and is coming off a strong fourth place finish at Falmouth where she ran 20:16 for three miles

Greely has two top athletes entered in the race. Carolyn Todd last year's runner-up ran 18:44.99 in 2017, she'll be looking for another strong run in 2018. Todd din't race last week. Her teammate Marin Provencher had a breakthrough year on the track last spring, and enters the race ranked MileSplit50 #13. She opened her season with a second place effort running 21:04.

MileSplit50 #14 Hannah D'orso of Kennebunk opened her season with a strong 20:29 to win at Cheverus.
