In Class B Boys there was a great individual race with Martin Horne of Freeport & Jack Bassett of Cape Elizabeth battling to the line for the third straight week. In the end Horne used his patented kick to secure the victory in a time of 16:56.11 win by six second over Bassett. The previous two weeks Horne edged Bassett by 2 seconds.
Alfie Walker of Fryeburg Academy & Griffin Allaire of Wells really pushed the pace in the early stages of the race with the duo coming through the mile in about 5:15.
Allaire took over the lead as they approached two miles and held it as they prepared to enter the A loops once again.
Horne & Bassett were patient, they didn't get out too fast as they were 5:20 at the mile and then worked with each other to close the gap to Allaire around the 1.5 mile mark. As they entered the "A" they had made contact with Allaire.
Horne opened up a 3-4 second gap over Bassett as they came up the "Pain Cave" with Allaire another 3-4 second back of them.
No one would be able to catch Horne over the final 400m as he finished in full flight, running the third fastest time on the day with his 16:56.11. Bassett had to settle for the runner-up finish but did clock a new Twin Brook personal best with his 17:02.35.
Allaire would finish next in third at 17:06.81, closing the gap from last week at WMC's over the top two.
Lincoln Academy's Sam Russ ran comfortable throughout and had plenty left as he grabbed fourth place with his 17:20.94 effort. His teammate Jarrett Gulden was next in 17:26.49.
Senior Ben Cox-Faxon of Yarmouth finished sixth in a time of 17:33.60, he was followed by Cape senior Peter DiNinno (17:36.30).
The early leader Walker was next in eighth with a 17:41.46 effort. In ninth Griffin McNamara of York grabbed the Wildcats first finish with his 17:46.01
Jojo Martin of Lincoln Academy rounded out the top 10 with his 17:53.07 finish.
The team race was incredibly close as York & Cape Elizabeth tied 82 points each with Freeport just two spots back with 84. York claimed the regional title on the strength of their sixth runner, Cavin McNarma who finished 30th overall 22 spots better than the Capers 6th runner.
Defending regional and Class B state champion Lincoln Academy finished in fourth despite three in the top ten. The Eagles tallied 92 points just 10 off the title. They will be a dangerous team next week.
Yarmouth rounded out the top five teams with 125 points.
Looking ahead to next week this should be one of the most competitive team races with a handful of team capable of hoisting the state championship trophy.

The girls individual race was a duel between defending champion Lily Horne of Freeport & Cape Elizabeth sophomore Lila Gaudrault as the two ran stride for stride for over 2 miles of the race. Gaudrault used her long legs to her advantage on the final down hills as she was able to open up a gap over Horne before the "Pain Cave".
Gaudrault keep her foot on the gas to the line as she clocked a 19:34.77 the third fastest time of the day overall. Horne would finish just 4 second back in 19:38.61. That is two straight weeks that Gaudrault has gotten the better of the defending Class B state champion setting up a winner take all next week in Belfast.
Gaudrault expected Horne to push the pace as that is what she did a week ago at St Joe's.
Lila though the slowing of the pace helped with her race, "It definitely did, but it was nerve-wracking as she was right next to me, and I could tell we were working hard."
Looking ahead to next week the star sophomore is looking for a repeat off today, and a new personal best.
Cape's Camilla Grosso ran just about the whole race by herself as she was in third place throughout. Not having anyone around didn't seem to bother the senior who clocked 20:59.93.
Next was the Wells duo of sophomore Kate Pinette and senior Heidi Fortin who ran 21:23.94 and 21:24.34 respectively.
York senior Grace Gear was the first Wildcat across the line in 21:31.85, she was followed by Fryeburg Academy freshman Alana Nataluk who ran 21:32.24 for seventh.
Yarmouth sophomore Maddie Marston grabbed eighth place in 21:47.04, while Cape senior Kelsey Kennedy ran to a strong ninth place effort in 21:48.15.
Rounding out the top ten individuals was York's Sydney Fogg with a time of 21:49.28.
The team race was very competitive as the York Wildcats took the regional crown by four points over Cape Elizabeth. York scored 69 points and had four runners in the top 15 overall, the Wildcats were led by senior Grace Gear's 6th place finish.
The difference between the two teams was the 5th runner as York's finished 26th while Cape's didn't come until 42nd.
Yarmouth who beat both teams to win the WMC title a week ago finished third with 89 while Wells have a great day as they placed fourth with 97 points
Freeport rounded out the top five team with 115 points.
