Matson Ready To Compete Against the Best At Footlocker
Falmouth sophomore Sofie Matson the two time defending Class A state champion qualified for the Footlocker National Championship with a strong 8th place effort in the Footlocker Northeast race at famed Van Cortlandt Park two weeks ago. With her qualification she becomes the eight girl in state history to qualify for the prestigious race which will take place at Balboa Park in San Diego, California.
Sofie is the first Maine qualifier since Greely's Kristin Sandreuter in 2013. Kennebunk's Abbey Leonardi a three time qualifier for the event has the best finish for a Maine female with her fourth place finish in 2011. Leonardi finished 22nd as a sophomore so that is something the Matson will be shooting for against a talented field.
The footlocker field has 40 competitors, 10 each from the the four regions (WEST, MIDWEST, SOUTH & NORTHEAST).
