Scarborough junior Jarett Flaker is known for his speed.

Flaker the state record holder in the 200m & 400m indoors open up his 2018-19 campaign at Boston University on Saturday in the 200m.

The defending Class A champion in the event didn't have the greatest of starts without the aid of blocks, but recovered in time to dust the field, and in the process break his own state record of 22.28 run at the New Balance Indoor Nationals a year ago. Flaker stopped the clock at 22.14 to win by .64 seconds.

His mark is the top 200m time in the country as of December 9th, and has qualified him for the Emerging Elite race at New Balance Nationals.

Flaker now has run the three fastest 200m in state history 22.14, 22.28 and 22.32. The most impressive of those marks might be the slowest, as he ran that on a flat track as opposed to the other two times on banked ovals.

With this just the start of the season the Red Storm star is looking to go under 22 in the near future, and also go after the 6.46 state record in the 55m dash. His best time was a 6.50 effort a year ago. The 400m will be on his radar as well, he set the all-time state best at 49.24 a year ago, and would like to go in the low 48's this winter.
