Three meet records fell during the 20th running of the USM Relays on Saturday at University of Southern Maine.

Senior Jason Montano of Thornton Academy started things off in the shot put as the state leader threw 57-10 to surpass the seventeen year old record of 57-0 by Matt Brown of Boothbay. Montano's throw was almost 10ft better than the second place thrower on the day. Montano has a best of 61-3 on the season which ranks second nationally.

The next record fell in the high jump where LSU bound Nyagoa Bayak of Westbrook jumped a seasonal best 5-8 to surpass the mark of 5-6 jumped by Emma Egan in 2016 & Bayak in 2017. The mark currently ranks as 6th best in the country. Bayak also added a win in the triple jump as she increased her state leading mark out to 37-3 1/4.

Scarborough junior Jarett Flaker repeated as 55m champion as he clocked a meet record 6.50. The mark improved on the 6.53 run by Wells Denzel Tomaszewski in 2012.

Besides the records that fell there was plenty of other top notch performances on the track and the field.

In the mile Jillian Richardson of Edward Little ran a state leading 5:10.67, the time improved her personal best by 12 seconds. The race went out very fast as Kate Tugman clocked 33 seconds for the first 200m, and 72 seconds for the first 400m. The pace was still hot at the 800m as the Tugman was joined by Richardson as the duo crossed in 2:30. Richardson was content to let Tugman lead 350 for meters before she went to the front, and pulled away.

In the high jump Anthony Clavette of Scarborough entered the competition at 6 feet after all other competitors had exited. Clavette cleared 6ft with a little wiggle from the bar. He moved up to 6-3 for his next attempt, which was a excellent first attempt make. The bar went to 6-5 1/4 next as Clavette went for the Scarborough school record. After a first attempt miss, Clavette sailed over the bar on his second attempt. He finished with two excellent jumps at 6-6.

In the mile Scarborough's Tristram Coffin outlasted the competition as he lowered his state leading mark to 4:31.44,  as he dropped his personal four seconds. The race went out strong with Aiden Willey of Bonny Eagle pushing it through 800m in 2:12 with Will Shaughnessy of Brunswick, and Coffin in tow. Willey continued to led at the bell but Coffin struck on the back stretch and moved by with 100m to go as he closed the final 200m in 32.5.

The girls pole vault was a great competition as junior Anna Gardner of Scarborough & sophomore Tia Snyder of Thornton Academy each jumped 10-0. Gardner won on fewer missed. The 10-0 mark is a new state leader.

On the boys side after winning the pentathlon state leader Travis Snyder cleared 15-0, and then had some great attempts at 15-7 just brushing the bar off on his last two attempts.

Emily Labbe of Scarborough lowered her state leading 55m hurdles time to 8.84 as she claimed the title.

The Scarborough boys sprint medley clocked 3:43.50 to win the event, the mark is the seventh fastest time in the event in state history.

The Bonny Eagle girls dropped the fastest 4x800m in the state this winter as they won the event with a strong 10:04.88 effort as they won the event by 48 seconds.

Evelyn Kitchen of Gorham won the pentathlon with a total of 2825, that effort ranks her 6th best in the country in the event.
