Orono Girls & Ellsworth Boys Win EMITL Small School Titles

The Ellsworth Eagles were the best team on Saturday in the small school division of the PVC-EMITL Championship as they scored 146 points to easily turn back Orono by 64 points.

Leading the way for Ellsworth was Henry Scheff who won the 55m hurdles in a time of 8.62 as he edged Niklas Dittmar of Orono by .01. It was another win from Scheff in the high jump as he soared to a new personal best clearing 6-0. He would add a third place effort in the triple jump.

The distance runners came up big as Matt Shea won the mile in 4:53.12 with teammate Nicholas Cormier finishing second. The duo reserved order in the 2 mile as Cormier stopped the clock at 10:56.61.

The triple provided the Eagles with 24 important points as Beck Deeny won the event with a leap of 38-9 1/4, also scoring where Atticus Deeny, and Scheff.

Nate Mason was the winner of the long jump with a mark of 19-10, he added eight more points with a 5-10 runner-up finish in the long jump. Mason also placed third in the 400m.

Bucksport's Carter Tolmasoff was the sprint star of the meet as he won the 55m dash with a time of 6.73. Tolmasoff won the 200m in a personal best 23.90, that time currently ranks him second in Class B.

Nate Sawyer of Bucksport won the 400m dash in a fine time of 53.42, a time that is the fastest in Class B heading into the state meet.
