Emma White Equals State Triple Jump Record

Cheverus senior Emma White came into the 2019 outdoor track and field with a personal best of 37-4 which she achieved at the Class A State Championship last spring in a winning effort. Her mark equaled the ninth best in state history in the event.

White had a strong indoor campaign in the event jumping a best of 37-10 1/4 at the Boston University Last Chance meet. She was the Class A runner-up in the event, and competed in the New Balance Nationals Emerging Elite competition.

"I knew from Indoor that I had the potential to continue to jump well in Outdoor, but I was not expecting to start out that far right off the bat. I was so surprised when I broke 38' on my first fair jump, and then jumping 38' 8.5" after was incredible. I would of been happy jumping 36' to start so now I am so excited about the rest of the season." White told MileSplit.

The Umaine bound White leaped out to 38-8 1/2 in her opening season meet at Falmouth on Tuesday afternoon. The mark equaled the 11 year old record mark of Messalonskee's Jesse LaBreck. White will have to share the record for now but with the season just beginning she'll have more opportunities to improve and potential become the first 39 foot triple jumper in state history outdoors. 

"After already tying the state record, I'd like to continue to improve. My goal at the beginning of the season was 39', but now I think even 40' is possible. I'm super grateful and looking forward to what's to come." White said.
