The Cony girl's team ended up with enough ribbons of every color to overcome Belfast's dominance at the top of the podium to repeat as KVAC Class B outdoor track and field Champions for 2019.
It was an auspicious start for the Rams as their 4 x 800 team opened the meet with a win. They ended the day atop the sixteen team field with 100 points, Winslow followed with 93, Belfast came next at 85. Waterville (69) and Maranacook (50) rounded out the top five.
Anna Reny's mastery of the hurdles led to wins in both the 100 (15.84) and 300 (46.63) meter hurdles. Both marks are new personal bests and the sophomore put up another personal marker in the 200 where her run of 26.52 earned her a second place ribbon. The Rams also got an individual title from Annemarie Towle in the race-walk; Towle glided to victory in 9:05.51, also setting a new personal best.
Cony's depth helped them pile up the points. Anna Reny had company on the hurdles podium as first year Mallory Audette placed at both distances while setting new personal marks. Reny also got a hand from her sister Julia who took second in the 400, third in the javelin (106-11, PR) and placed in the 100. The Rams also took thirds in both the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 relays.
Carly Warn led Winslow to a second place finish by taking the title in both sandy jumps. She went 16-11.25 to take the long jump title and 32-11.25 for the triple win. The long jump is a new personal best for the sophomore who also put up a new mark while placing third in the 100. Warn collect the fifth place ribbon in the 200.
Other leading scores for Winslow included Grace Smith with a second place in the triple jump, Maeghan Bernard scoring in the javelin, and both the 100 and 300 meter hurdles. Weslee Littlefield collected pints in shot and discus.
Belfast came in third with 85 points but led the field in blue ribbons. The Lions took team wins in both the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 and also got a pair of individual wins a piece from Junne Robertson-McIntire and Lia Frazie. Frazie took the high jump at 5-0 and the pole vault at 10-0, both personal marks for the freshman she also took fifth in the 100 meter hurdles.
Junne Robertson-McIntire, a junior, is now the KVAC champion in the 100 (12:54) and 200 (26.14, PR) two years running. Next week she will be defending Class B State championship at 200 meters.
The day's other multi-event winner was Sage Pound of Mt. View. Pound took the top spot in the 800 (2:27.62, PR) and 1600 (5:18.39, PR) meter runs, the later race was a back and forth contest with Mt. Blue's Kahryn Cullenberg. Although she conceded the top spot in the 1600 Cullenberg's time of 5:20.12 was a new personal mark. The junior was vindicated later in the afternoon when she ran an 11:45.95 to win the 3200, leaving the field far behind and establishing a second personal best for the day.
The remaining individual champions were Maranacook's Molly McGrail (400, 1:01.16), Sarah Cox of Waterville in the discus (115-07), Alyssa Bourque of Lawrence in the javelin (111-11) and MCI's Christa Carr who threw the shot put 36-10.
