MDI Sweeps Team Titles, Jandreau & Webber Take Individual Wins


Freshman Anna Jandreau of Presque Isle didn't let her inexperience bother her on Saturday at the Northern Maine Regional XC Championship at the Troy Howard Middle School in Belfast.

"I knew I had a good chance to win this race, so my goal was to go out ahead and keep that spot." Jandreau said of her race plan

Jandreau executed the race plan to perfection as she went to front and never looked back. She finished in a time if 20:07.93 to turn back runner-up Olivia Tiner of Winslow by twelve seconds.

Tiner moved up well throughout the race but ran out of distance to catch Jandreau. 

"I wish I went a little faster in the beginning, but I was trying to be conservative because of what happened at FOC (cramping)." Tiner said.

Mt Desert Island senior Katelyn Osborne led the charge for the Trojans in third place she held off Caitlin MacPherson of Ellsworth by .01 seconds.

Freshman Abby Williams of Waterville had a strong fifth place finish, as did another freshman Kayley Bell of Caribou who placed sixth.

Rounding out the top ten it was a sea of green with Olivia Johnson, Callan Easton, Rachelle Swanson, & Grace Munger all of Mt Desert Island.

With 5 scorers in the top ten Mt Desert Island cruised to the regional title with a tidy 37 points. The Trojans averaged 20:59 with an impressive compression of 34 seconds.

Medomak Valley earned the runner-up trophy as they continued their strong run in the post-season. They tallied 107 points to hold off third place Ellsworth 117 points by 10.

Lawrence junior Josiah Webber didn't spend anytime studying is his competitors before the Northern Maine Class B Regional.

Instead he just relied on his confidence and let the competitors set the early pace

"It was really a fun race" Webber commented, "I let the field rabbit it out and I took the lead at the 1000 and held it from there."

Once in the lead Webber never looked back, "I thought you got the lead you just run your heart out."

Webber did just that as he had a strong finishing kick and raised his arms in triumph as he crossed the finish line in a time of 17:06.36.

Behind him Dylan Fowler of Hermon moved his way up to second place, he finished right seconds behind Webber.

A pair of MDI Trojans finishing third & fourth with Ponce Saltysia & Jon Genrich, they were followed by a pair of Vikings as Jordan Duplissie & Ethan Holmquist.

Freshman Sam York gave MDI it's third finisher in seventh, while Medomak Valley sophomore Connor Daigle was eighth. Behind him came Ben Zapsky of Hermon, and rounding out the top ten was Noah Koch of Waterville.

Mt Desert Island had all five scorers in the top thirteen as they scored 39 points to win the team title. The Trojans had a 43 second compression while averaging 17:40.

Caribou took home the hardware for second as the Vikings held off Hermon by three points, 67-70. The Vikings had four runners in the top fifteen.
