Abby Mace of Maranacook (19:04) and Kelton Cullenberg of Mt. Blue (16:09) turned in impressive individual performances and Mt. Blue took first place in both boys and girls competition in a 5 team KVAC meet at Leavitt.
In the girls race, Maranacook's Mace took control right from the start, though Mt. Blue's Melody Lam remained within striking distance at the mile. By two miles, Mace had increased her margin to 48 seconds and won by nearly two minutes over teammate Taylor Burr, who passed Lam when the latter fell in the last half mile. Lam would recover and place 3rd with rapidly improving Sorrell Dunn of Oxford Hills 4th and Allison Fereshetian of Leavitt 5th. Mt. Blue then took 4 of the next 6 places for the team victory with Maranacook 12 points back.
On the boys side, Kelton Cullenberg of Mt. Blue took it out hard (4:49) with Cony's Luke Fontaine not far behind. Cullenberg passed the two mile in 10:06 with Fontaine 14 seconds back. Cullenberg finished strong in an impressive 16:09 with Fontaine turning in a respectable 16:32.
Team competition was tight between Cony and Mt. Blue. Cony's Will Lundquist and Alex Smith were took 3rd and 4th followed by Mt. Blue's Brody Hines and Alex Luchini. Cony's Briar Beede took 7th followed by Justin Greeley of Maranacook and Mt. Blue's Richie Brooks. The team result was decided when Mt. Blue's Kris Nadeau edged Maranacook's Evan Longfellow in a furious finish for 10th place giving Mt. Blue a 31-32 edge over Cony.
