Turn Back The Clock Tuesday: Harris Splits 46.9 on 4x400m

Turn Back The Clock Tuesday: Isaiah Harris Splits 46.9 on 4x400m

Today we look back at one of the most exciting 4x400m races to close out a state meet as we head back to Windham High School for the 2014 Class A state meet.

The race was an excellent one with Cheverus taking the lead on the first leg with Elijah Yeboah leading the way, Lewiston was a close second at the handoff. The second leg things remained the same with the Stags holding a slight lead over the Blue Devils. Cheverus opened a gap on the third leg with Isaac Yeboah blasting it open over the final 200m which set the stage for the final lap carry.

On anchor for Cheverus was senior Jake Dixon who won the 400m in 48.93, and was the runner-up in the 200m with a 22.76 and ran a leg on the state record breaking 4x100m relay. Dixon got the stick 3.25 seconds up on Lewiston anchor Isaiah Harris. Harris earlier in the meet won the 800m in 1:52.96, a state meet record, then ran Dixon down in the 200m to win in a photo finish 22.7506 to 22.759.

Dixon smartly got out fast to apply the pressure to Harris, but down the back stretch Harris closed the gap down to 1.5 seconds. Dixon kept his form together home stretch crossing the line first with a 48.9 carry, while Harris closed with a 46.9 anchor leg. The Stags of Cheverus just missed the state record with their 3:25.98 winning effort, while Lewiston was the runner-up in 3:27.07.

The 46.9 anchor leg left those in the crowd in awe of the effort by Harris. Immediately after coaches were talking about just how the fast must have been, we immediately reviewed the footage from the race, and multiple people had the split under 47 seconds!
