Turn Back The Clock Tuesday: Labbe Wins 100m Title by .01
Today we turn the clock back to the 2018 Class A state championship held at Morse High School to the girls 100m hurdle final that featured Emily Labbe of Scarborough and Nina Tasker of Noble.
Entering the final Tasker had recorded a time of15.10 (+2.6) in the trials while Labbe ran 15.18 (+1.5). Tasker had also won the indoor 55m title over Labbe in February.
When the gun went off Tasker got a great start which put her out front for the first five hurdles by a comfortable margin. Labbe though was gaining ground with each hurdle and pulled just about even at hurdle eight. The two continued to run stride for over the final two hurdles and both had a strong lean for the finish line.
Both athletes rushed back to the finish line to look at the results scoreboard to see who had won the race. When the times flashed, Labbe was up first with a 14.75, Tasker was second in 14.76. Labbe's time equaled the third-fastest time in state history, while Tasker's is the fourth-best.
Later in the meet Labbe added a runner-up finish in the 300m hurdles and ran a leg on the fourth-place 4x400m relay.
