Salute to Seniors: Ethan Eickmann

School: Kennebunk High School

What was your most memorable race/meet?
Definitely XC New Englands 2018-the mud was nuts and I slipped and fell before even warming up, but it was still a really cool race.

Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?
Hard to say-I've been chasing Aiden Willey for most of the past 4 years, though.

What was your greatest accomplishment?
Probably my 1600 at track New Englands last year. Everything went right and I finally broke 4:30.

If you could do it all over again what would you change about your xc/track&field career in high school?
I couldn't really control it, but it really sucked to be injured from XC postseason all the way through indoor. I'd love to have the chance to finish things right.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?
Apart from injury, learning that not every run should be 6:30 or faster.

What will you miss the most?
My team and my coach.

What advice you would give to younger athletes?
Sleep > all else

What influence has your coach had with respect to your performance and overall life goals?
Fulford's always been a great inspiration and his own patience has been key to helping me be consistent in my training. I hope to still be running when I'm an old man like him.

How do you feel about missing your senior season due to the coronavirus?
It's pretty disappointing, but things don't always go to plan. It also hasn't stopped me from running, which is fun even if I can't race.

What are your college plans?
I'll be attending Columbia and running on a club team.

Who would you like to say thank you to?
Obviously to Fulford, who's been a fantastic coach for four years. I don't think I could have asked for anyone better to help me through my high school career. Big thanks also go to Arlene and Erika, our trainers, for helping to keep me healthy, as well as my other coaches-Viola, Holmes, and OG Dinehart-for all making high school track and XC so great. I have to thank my teammates-Garrett, Gabe, Chuck, Kevin, and Andrew x2 especially-for being great friends and training partners. Lastly, to my family for their support and for buying so many pairs of shoes.

Is there anything else you'd like to add?
Watch out for Flynn Crean
