Scarborough's Jayden Flaker gave himself a great birthday present as he hurdled his way to the 15-16 year old 110m hurdles AAU national title on Friday morning. Flaker who turned 16 qualified for the final by winning section one on Thursday in a personal best 15.23 despite a -1.6 headwind. His qualifying time was sixth-best of the eight finalists. Running out of lane seven Jayden got off to a strong start.

"I had a perfect start," Flaker told Maine MileSplit via text message after his race.

He was even with the field through five hurdles before taking a slight lead to the last hurdle where he stumbled a bit but maintained his balance through the line for the win in huge personal best of 14.42.

After crossing the finish line Flaker didn't know he had won he received the news from his dad in the stands.

The time equals the third fastest in Maine state history and is a new sophomore state all-time best.
