2020 Maine XC Watchlist: Gordon Doore, Bangor HS

Notable Finishes: 5th KVAC Championship 2019, 6th NM Class A Regional 2019, 7th Class A State Championship 2019

Comments: Doore got better and better in the championship season in 2019, culminating with a seventh-place finish at the Class A state meet which helped his Bangor squad to a runner-up finish. He's put in some big miles this summer and with Bangor, the favorite to win the team title Doore figures to be an important part of the title run.

What has your summer training consisted of? How much mileage are you putting in?

My training this summer training has been made up of 2 hard sessions per week (normally a long run and tempo work), hill work, a moderate run, and easy running everywhere else. I've been putting in about 70 miles per week.

What are your goals for the upcoming season?

I'd like to win a state title with my team, move up on my school's all-time list, and place top 3 individually at states.

What is your favorite workout that makes you feel most prepared for success?

Mile repeats on the track are a huge confidence boost.

What did you learn from the last xc season that will help you improve in 2020?

Last season I really learned a lot about how to work out properly.

How is your team looking for the fall?

Bangor Cross Country is looking better than ever. We're returning all of our guys from last year's runner up team, and we've picked up a couple of guys who could run some monster races.

How do you stay motivated when you don't want to run?

I'd say it's important to get into the habit of running. Treat it as something that isn't associated with motivation, like eating. Also, forcing myself through at least 10 minutes normally gets me going

What is the greatest piece of advice you've ever received in the sport?

Accept that it's going to hurt and throw your expectations out the window

What are the top three "little things" that you do to prevent injury?

Take easy days easy, prioritize good form, warm up, and down properly.

What is the one thing you have done during COVID-19 that you have never had time for in the past?

Reading.

What's the farthest you've ever run at one time?

14 miles.

If every day were a holiday, what would yours be?

Halloween is always fun.

Favorite subject in school?

I'd have to pick two, Science and History.

If you could go on a run with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be? Why?

I think I'd want to go on a run with Shakira. She's gotten me through too many runs, I need to thank her in person.

If your teammates gave you a superlative, what would it be?

No idea
