2020 Maine XC State Meet No Longer To Be Held At Belfast

With Waldo County officially being designated as a "Yellow" by the state on Friday after a large COVID-19 breakout, the Maine Principal's Association said that would move the scheduled cross-country state championship meets as a result.

The championship meet were scheduled to take place at the Troy Howard Middle School course on Nov. 11 for boys and Nov. 14 for girls. Also affected is the KVAC Class B state qualifying meet which was scheduled for Oct. 31, that meet will now take place at the Quarry Road course in Waterville.

According to the Sun Journal, assistant executive director of the MPA Mike Bisson said

"We're looking at a few other sites. We want to be as centrally located as we can so people don't have to travel much, and we don't want to go into counties that are hot. Plus we have to have a course wide enough to keep the kids spaced out."

The MPA cross-country committee is scheduled to meet Tuesday according to a member of the committee to discuss the course options for the state meet. The same committee member has said that Gorham (Narragansett course) and Twin Brook (Cumberland the site of the 2019 state meet) are under consideration.
