Last fall, Sean Gray of Portsmouth, Rhode Island, put on a masterclass at the Troy Howard Middle School course. The junior shattered both the course and meet record of 15:06 with an impressive 14:55.56, becoming the only runner ever to break the 15-minute barrier on this historic 5K course. Returning fastest from last year's race is Ellis Wood of Deering, who placed fourth in 2024 with a time of 15:49. Though coming off an injury, Wood competed last week and is expected to perform strongly again on Saturday. So far, 48 athletes have broken the 16-minute mark at FOC. With perfect weather forecasted and a dry course thanks to little rain this summer, that number is likely to grow this weekend.
