Dunn & Leonardi win Paul Brogan Invitational

The inaugural Paul Brogan Invitational was held today in South Portland. Despite only three team competing, there were some impressive performances, most notably defending Class A state champion and 2010 Footlocker National qualifier Abbey Leonardi running 8:27 over the 1.5 mile course to open up her season. Leonardi was the top girl on the day, her time was 1:19 faster than the next best time, which was clocked by her teammate, freshman Laura Broderick. In boys race #1, junior Chris Dunn (Kennebunk) showed he's in good form, leading wire to wire to clock the fastest boys time on the day 8:08, which held off a hard charging Matthew Clement (South Portland) by one second.

 

 

Race #2 saw Tom Redstone (South Portland) take the lead right from the beginning, he would go on to win by 22 seconds over Biddeford Sophomore Tom Laverriere. On the girls side freshman Laura Broderick, had a strong showing in her run as a high schooler. Race #3 saw the closest race between the 5 races.  Austin Gotts of South Portland lead all the way until the final meters, when he was passed by a fast closing,  Robert Eckland (Kennebunk). Eckland got the nod 8:48 to 8:49. The times were good for 4th and 5th fastest time respectively. Cameron Nadeau of Biddeford was close the entire way as they entered the track, Nadeau couldn't respond to the kicks of the other too, but still posted a sub 9 performance of 8:56. In the girls race Allie Bush (Kennebunk) led the entire way earning a 15 second victory over South Portland's Angela Tirabassi RACE VIDEO

 

Race #4 saw Max Knutsen of South Portland dominate the rest of the runners. Knutsen would go on to win the race by 1:05, clocking 9:18. Eric Rudman of Biddeford was 2nd. The girls race saw Sophie Desjardins(Southa Portland) triumph over Emmy Akers (Kennebunk) by 1:08. RACE VIDEO

 

Race #5 saw another South Portland harrier win, as Ryan Tuttle took the race in 9:24. Bram Oosten (Kennbunk) was 2nd in 9:48. On the girls side Jackie Merrill (South Portland) took the win clocking 11:40. RACE VIDEO
