The Maine sprint scene is loaded with talent this season. From athletes dominating a single event to others putting up numbers across two or even all three events, this group represents some of the best the sport and state have to offer.
Here's a look at the top boys sprinters to know right now.
Top Returning Sprinters:
Ali Carter (Falmouth HS): A year ago, Carter won the Class A 400m title and clocked a best of 48.78 in the event, the eighth best in state history. He also ran 10.75 (100m) and 200m (21.64) last spring. Indoors, Carter dealt with some injuries but did run 22.14 for 200m to finish second in the Class A state meet. He clocked the third fastest 200m in state history at New Balance Nationals, 22.03. He will compete at the University of Massachusetts Amherst next fall.
Drew Gervais (Bonny Eagle HS): Gervais, just a junior, had a big sophomore season a year ago, posting a runner-up finish in both the 100m and 200m at the Class A state meet. He clocked bests of 10.81 and 21.72 last spring. Indoors, he won his first individual state title in the 55m dash and was the runner-up at 200m. He placed seventh in the 100m at the New England Championship last spring.
Bossay Ditanduka (South Portland, HS): The senior from South Portland finished third in the Class A 200m (22.19) last spring, and was sixth in the 100m (11.10). Indoor Ditanduka won the 200m (22.11), the fastest flat track 200m in state history, and was the runner-up in the 55m dash.
Mason Henderson (Leavitt HS): Henderson has been one of the best sprinters in Class B since his freshman year. Last year, he didn't compete in the postseason but posted 100m (11.22), 200m (22.56), and 400m (50.34) bests. He placed 2nd in the 400m, and 3rd in the 100m and 200m in 2024 at the state meet.
Rocco Ciccomancini (Deering HS): The Deering senior placed 4th in the 200m and 7th in the 100m at the Class A state meet a year ago. He clocked a best of 11.05 and 22.28 for 200m. Indoors, Ciccomancini was fourth in both 55m and 200m at the state meet. He will compete for Williams College next fall.
Jack Cyr (Gorham HS): Cyr was the Class A runner-up at 400m as a sophomore a year ago, clocking a best of 50.0 on the season. Indoor, he captured his first individual title with a win in the 400m and was fifth in the 200m.
Alex Benjamin (Belfast HS): Just a freshman a year ago, Benjamin won the Class B 100m title in 11.30m, and was the runner-up in the 200m. Look for even more from the new star this spring.
Sebastian Martini (Brunswick HS): Martini was third in the 400m (50.46) last spring. He also ran 22.98 for 200m and 11.39 for 100m. Indoors, he ran a leg on the 4x200 state record-breaking relay for the Dragons.
