Top Returning Girls' Sprints Ahead Of 2026 Outdoor Season

The Maine sprint scene is loaded with talent this season. From athletes dominating a single event to others putting up numbers across two or even all three events, this group represents some of the best the sport and state have to offer.

Here's a look at the top girls' sprinters to know right now.

Top Returning Sprinters:

Karoline Gonzales (Mt. Blue HS): The sophomore had a huge freshman season that saw her finish second in the Class A state in 12.61; she leads all returners statewide in the event. Gonzales ran 26.56 for 200m as well and placed 8th in the state meet.

Avery Bariteau (Fryeburg Academy): Bariteau is the defending Class B 100m and 200m champion. She clocked a best of 12.66 a year ago for the 100m and 26.14 for the 200m. Indoors, she was the 200m runner-up at states but lowered her personal best to 25.59.

Macey Weisberg (Cheverus HS): A junior, Weisberg was recovering from injury most of last spring; she got healthy enough to finish 3rd in the Class A 200m, and during the summer clocked 25.91, the fastest returner time in the state this spring. Indoors, she won the A 200m title in a personal best 25.77, and was the 55m runner-up (7.29).

Elliette Musica (Brunswick HS): Muscia leads all 400m returners statewide; last spring, she clocked a best of 59.23. Musica was 3rd in the 400m at states last spring, along with seventh in the 200m and sixth in the 100m. Indoors, she won the A 400m title and clocked a best of 59.25; additionally, she was third in the 200m (26.27), and third in the 55m (7.38).

Haley Rose (Bucksport HS): A year ago, Rose won the Class C 100m, 200m, and 400m titles. She clocked times of 12.74, 26.18, and 60.49. Indoors, she was the Class B runner-up at 400m and was fifth in the 200m.

Seneca Haney (Mt. Desert Island HS): Haney was the Class B 200m runner-up last spring and third in the 100m. Indoor, she won the 200m (25.47) at the Class B state meet; her time ranks sixth in state history. Haney was also the runner-up in the 55m indoors.

Bayley Fryer (Bangor HS): The senior was third in the Class A 100m and fourth in the 200m a year ago. She clocked times of 12.68 and 26.24 last spring. Indoors, Fryer placed 4th in the 200m, sixth in the 55m, and seventh in the 400m at Class A states.

Miah Jacobs (Yarmouth HS): Jacobs was the Class B 100m runner-up last spring; she ran a best of 12.75. Indoors, she won the 55m B title in 7.28 and was fourth in the 200m.
