Boys Teams

Brunswick- The Dragons dominated the rest of the state in 2010 scoring 106 points at the Class A State meet. Although the were hit hard by graduation (Will Geoghegan, Liam Cassidy, Brandon Sawyer, Kenzell Crawford) they have some top notch talent back in 2011 looking to make another run at the title. Brunswick will be lead by defending state pole vault champion Mike Slovenski, who already has jumped 14-11 this indoor season. Also look out for top sprinter Matt Hatke, who is the #2 returner in the 200m, and is a strong long jumper. Speaking of the long jump junior Dylan Walton 7 place last winter, is the #2 returner in the event. Another jump the Dragons have a threat is the triple jump with Mitchell Black, 5th last year coming back as the top returner. The Dragons should also have one of the top 4x200 relays. Brunswick has enough top athletes that should gain they some big points in the state meet, they could be the favorite to win 2 in a row.

Falmouth- The Yacthsmen took home the indoor title last winter after holding off a tough challenge from rival Greely. Falmouth was hit hard by graduation as well (Alec Dunn, Kellen McDonald, Michael Gardner). Leading the way for the Yacthsmen this winter will be triple sprint threat Will Wegener (3rd in 55m, 400m state champ,  4th in 200m) in 2010 Class B state meet. Wegener is the defending 400m champ,  the #2 returner in the 55m & 200m.  Hurdler Reid Pryzant is the #4 returner in the hurdles. Azad Jalai (9th as a freshman in the 800m) is the #3 returner in the event in 2011. Pole Vaulter Justin Hovey (#5 returner) is back as well. Falmouth also has added some distance runners this winter, all ran on their state runner-up squad this fall, they inlcude Thomas Edmonds, Henry Briggs & John Lake. Additionally, they have two sprinters back who competed in the state meet last year as well Jacob Buhelt & Jimmy Polewaczyk, and added a shot put threat in Andrew Kowlasky who threw 43 feet outdoors.

Scarborough- The Red Storm finished 3rd in the Class A last winter. They'll be looking to win for the 2nd time in 3 years in 2011. Scarborough opened up with at the Bowdoin Relays showing some string relay depth as they tied Mt. Ararat for first place. Sprinter John Gonzalez (2nd in the 55m) is back looking to avenge his loss in the 55m dash, that cam down to a photo finish. Gonzalez is also the lead off leg on a strong 4x200m relay squad. The Red Storm also look to have on of the top 4x800 relays with 3 of the 4 runners from the the #2 team last winter (Nick Morris, Tom Hague, Robby Hall), they'll add Zach Brown to the team, they ran 8:09 during outdoor with the same team. Other contributors expect to be Nick Morris (top returner in the 800m), Orin James (top returner in the HJ), Alec James (#2 returner in the Pole Vault ), Joe Viola (#3 returner in the 400m), Zach Brown (#3 returner in the Mile), Tom Hague (#3 returner in the 800m), Robby Hall (#6 returner in the 2 mile). The Red Storm have a lot of scoring options, and with an experienced squad will look to dethrone Brunswick in 2011.

Greely- The Rangers were the the Class B runner-up in 2010. Despite losing some big point scorers (Mark McCauley & Logan Price), Greely still figures to be one of the top teams in Class B in 2011. Headlining the Rangers lineup is defending state shot put champion, Michael Burgess, who opened his season with a new personal best 51-5 to win the Bowdoin Relays.  Another thrower to keep an eye on is Jack Fellows(4th in 2010) and the #3 returner this winter. Sophomore Liam Campbell is the top returner in the mile & #5 in the 800m, as he look to continue the strong distance tradition at Greely. Sam Mason (#5 returner at 200m) will look to move up in the sprints after a 7th last year in the 200m, he'll also compete in the long jump. Triple jumper Austin Spencer (4th in 2010) is the #2 returner in 2011 gives Greely another field event scoring threat. Also keep an eye on pole vaulter Matt Davis

Bonny Eagle- The Scots will look to be in the mix in Class A in 2011, they have some top athletes which should bode well for them in the championship meets. Bonny Eagle will rely on shot putter Nate Martel (who didn't compete in the state meet last year) but is the #1 returner based on distance from the 2010 season. Martel opened with a throw of 45-8 at the Bowdoin Relays. The Scots will also look to multi event threat Joey Collins (3rd in the 400m last year) and the top returner in the event. Collins could also opt for the 800m, where he has the fastest returning time in Class A. Hurdler Kyle Bailey was 6th last year, and is the #3 returner in the 55 hurdles. Also watch out for Collins younger brother Jeremy, he was one of the top 300m hurdlers outdoors.

Waterville- The Purple Panthers were 3rd last winter, and return a strong group athletes that give them a legit shot at a state title this winter. Waterville is led by two dynamic athletes Isaiah Spofford & Alex Rowe. Mt Ararat- The Eagles paced 7th in 2010 at the Class A state meet, they return with a strong squad looking to make a run at the Class A title in February. Mt. Ararat opened the season with a strong effort at the Bowdoin Relays, tying Scarborough for the top spot. Jumper McKenzie Gary is threat in the long jump & triple jump, he opened the season at 42-9 & 20-6 at the Bowdoin Relays. Pole Vaulter, Joey Fournier (11th in 2010), is the #4 returner and opened his season at 11-0 at Bowdoin.  Class A XC runner-up Andy Reifman-Packett is a threat in the 2 mile, he placed 8th in 2010, but is the #4 returner in 2011.
