Defending champion Silas Eastman (Fryebrug Academy) will be looking to make it 2 in a row in 2011. Now a junior, Eastman has been one of the top XC harriers in the state since his freshman year, he will be looking to further his already impressive XC resume this fall. Silas has shown good form this summer clocking 22:00 for 4 miles in the Bridgton 4 on the 4th road race. With the state meet being held at Twin Brook this fall the advantage goes to Eastman, who runs very well on a tough/hilly course due to his top quality, strength.
The #2 returner is Falmouth senior Tim Follo, who was the state runner-up behind Eastman last fall. Follo will be aiming to go out with a title under his belt, either individually or team. Freshman Dan Curts (Ellsworth) had a great rookie campaign last fal capped off with a 3rd place finish at the state meet. Curts will be looking to follow in the footsteps of the many Ellsworth runners of the past and claim the top spot. Erskine Academy senior Eben Hodgkins finished 5th last year, he was injured all spring so it'll be interesting to see how he rebounds this fall. York's Mitchell Finitz rounds out the top 5 returners in 2011, Finitz placed 7th a year ago breaking the 17 minute barrier.
The 2010 runner-up Falmouth Yatchsmen return their entire top 7 that came up just 9 points shy of a state title last fall. The Yatchsmen return 3 of the top 15 returners led by individual title threat Tim Follo. They'll be the pre-season favorite without a question. SMAA rivals York & Greely look to be the next best teams with perennial PVC powerhouse, Ellsworth fielding a very strong team as well. A total of 7 teams from 2010 return 5 runners.
