Performances of the Week: Matt McClintock & Abbey Leonardi

Abbey Leonardi (Kennebunk HS)  ran to her 3rd Maine Festival of Champions title last weekend. Abbey nagivated the rain soaked and mud covered course in a fine time of 18:16 (fastest 5k in the state this season), which outdistanced the runner-up by 36 seconds. Leonardi was aiming for the course record of 17:52 but the weather didn't cooperate with her plans, nonetheless it didn't stop her from trying as she hit the first mile in 5:30 but the course conditions got the best of her attempt in mile 2. Abbey is undefeated on the year & will be looking for her 4th straight Class A title later this month. Currently she is ranked #9 in the country in the Milesplit US rankings. For her excellent performance Abbey has been voted the MaineTrackXC "Performance of the Week" winner for girls

Matt McClintock (Madison HS) remained undefeated in 2011 with his repeat win at the Maine Festival of Champions. Matt was aiming for the course & meet record of 15:33, but after opening in 4:46 for the first mile, the course got the better of him as he had a tough time getting any solid footing during the 2nd mile. Despite the conditions McClintock covered the 5k in 16:08, which was 20 seconds better than 2nd place. Currently Matt has the fastest 5k & 3 mile times in the state this season 15:38-5k & 15:07-3mile. For his excellent performance he has been voted the MaineTrackXC "Performance of the Week" winner for boys
