While the Waterville Relays highlights the team aspect with several different relay events, the few individual races as the 1600m provided some outstanding early season performances. Bethanie Brown won the 1600m by almost a minute as she broke the 5 minute barrier with a fine 4:59.03. On the boys side indoor mile champion Harlow Ladd of Messalonskee & Lewiston's Mohammed Barre engaged in an epic duel that came down to a last lap sprint that saw Barre hold off Ladd 4:30.62 to 4:31.67, it was reported Barre completed the last lap in 61.x.

 

 

Other fine performances came from  the 4x800 win by Lawrence girls (pictured left) as they broke 10 minutes with a school record 9:55.82 which also smashed the meet record of 10:29.49. Also breaking a meet record in the boys shuttle hurdle race was the team from Waterville 55.50, the old record was 55.84 just last year. In the girls 4x100 the Lady Panthers added another meet record with a 52.13 clocking. The Waterville girls would add another record in the 4x400m as they finished in 4:17.93, taking over a second off the old record of 4:19.07

Standout efforts also came from Mostaf  Elfham (Lewiston) took the boys long jump with a personal best leap of 20-6. In the girls triple jump Alex Jenson of Waterville popped off a huge 36-0 1/4, she led her Waterville team to a win & new meet record distance of 102-8 1/4. Freshman Olivia Swan of Mt. Ararat won the high jump with a fine clearance of 5-1 which matches the state leader. Nick Margitza  (Waterville) the indoor state champion launched his outdoor personal best of 51-1 for the win. Waterville's Nick Danner had a strong day in the javelin with a throw of 167-7
