Beach to Beacon 2012 Eastman & Sandreuter lead HS'ers

Two time defending Class B XC champion Silas Eastman of Fryeburg Academy was the top Maine HS runner in the Beacon to Beacon 10k, Eastman ran a stellar race given the conditions as he crossed the line in 33:39.7 to finish 53rd overall, & 1st in the 15-19 age group. Silas's pace over the 6.2 mile course was 5:26, with this performance Eastman's showed he is already in top form and the favorite to 3 peat this fall on the trails. Yarmouth's Ben Decker who has runs track showed good form with his 64th place finish, running 34:17.2 to finish 3rd in the 15-19th age group. Telstar junior Josef Holt-Andrews was the 3rd best HS runner in 67th place (34:29.2), Andrews will be one of the favorites to win the Class C title this fall.

On the girls side Greely junior Kirstin Sandreuter put in a fine effort to lead the Maine HS girls as she placed 174th overall, & 3rd in the 15-19 age group. Sandreuter's time was 38:47.8, good for a 6:15 per mile clip. Oceanside junior Abby Hersom was the 2nd place finisher with her 40:55.2 effort, good for 6:36 per mile. Cheverus standout Shannon Conley was the #3 HS runner from Maine, Conley covered the 10k course in 41:36.5, a 6:42 mile average.

Leading the Maine Men was former Falmouth & Dartmouth grad Ethan Shaw who will be continuing his career as a professional. Shaw covered the 10k course in 30:37 good for a 4:56 per mile pace. Ethan got by former Falmouth teammate Jon Wilson in the final mile to win the Maine title. Wilson one of the favorites coming in to the race held the lead until mile 5, he went on to finish second with a finishing time of 30:51.2, a 4:58 per mile average. Rob Gomez of Saco was the 3rd Maine runner across the line 19th, stopping the clock at 31:50.3. Former Caoe Elizabeth & Bowdoin College Standout Coleman Hatton placed 18th overall running 31:46.7

On the Maine women's side pre-race favorite Sheri Piers had a great effort in the heat and humdity as she placed 66th overall in 34:21.9. Piers was just off her Maine course of 34:17, in the process she was the top Masters finisher in the race. Former Scarborough & UNH standout Erica Jesseman was the 2nd place Maine finisher, running a strong 35:43.1. Oregon bound & former Kennebunk HS star Abbey Leonardi made her debut in the 10k finishing as the 3rd Maine women, Abbey covered the course in 36:26.8
