I know I haven't been “up to date” when it comes to updating my blog, so I apologize. It's been about three weeks since I've posted my first blog. I've been through three meets since then and I haven't been running the times I've wanted to run. Race after race I kept asking myself what's so different about this xc season compared to others? The answer is that it's my last one. Obviously I knew that this was my last season, but I didn't think I realized that what I do this xc season will reflect on what I've been doing the past three year as well as this one. I realize that if I do mess up my season there is no “there's always next year”. I just had to get that out of head.

On to a brighter note, my xc team is the deepest one I've been a part of. Year after year my coach kept telling the team we have a shot at the regional title. This year is different than any other as we have a shot at the state title. To say we have a shot at the state title is an achievement all on its own. I'm proud of what my team has been doing so far at practices and at the meets, as we are currently undefeated.
Friday on the 7th we held our first home course cross country meet. For those of you that aren't aware we have never had our own home course. My sophomore year it was turned down by the school because it was deemed “unsafe”. My junior year Hurricane Irene had destroyed our course. So finally after many years of heartache we finally got to run it. Sadly I didn't finish the race. The race started out differently as my teammate (Mohamed Awil) and I decided to take the race out hard in the beginning. We had already opened up a gap on everyone in less than 200 meters. Through the mile we came out in 5:30 and continued to push although we were slowed down by the rolling hills we ran an 11:20 2nd mile. I forgot to mention the days leading up to the race I started to feel pain in my Achilles and arches. I did ice them both, but I didn't ice enough, even though I knew this has been a recurring problem in the past. On the day of the race there was still pain in my left foot, but none on my right, so I knew I could get through the race. During most of the race I was powering through with my right leg so I wouldn't have to put pressure on my left. Getting back to the race, after I hit the 2nd mile I went through the first hill I felt like someone shot a bullet to my right arch. I tried pushing myself even harder, and then my left arch felt like my foot was about to break in half. I then tried slowing down to a jog knowing how much this win meant to the team and I, but I couldn't keep going. I then had to drop out for the 2nd time ever.

My biggest goal right now is not to let this injury get to my head, this isn't my first time getting through an injury like this. I haven't been able to show my full abilities yet, and hopefully I will be able to in a couple weeks. Good luck to everyone on their season!
