FOC: Cody Vachon Pre-Meet Interview

Cody Vachon Sr. Massabesic HS

Cody you are coming off a personal best of 16:54 @ Manchester Invitational, what does that do for your confidence heading into FOC? How fast do you think you can run @Belfast?

Running my personal best time at Manchester upped my confidence but I'm still nervous because I can't wait to run and try to get an even better personal record and to seeing where I stand going into the end of the season with the rest of the class A runners. I'm hoping to get a 16:40 to a 16:30 which would give my school a new record for cross country, which I've always wanted to do.

Your team has been turning a lot of heads this fall, you guys upset Scarborough on their home course & placed 4th in the large school division at Manchester Invite last weekend, what is the team goal for this weekend?

My teammates have been working very hard especially Mike Aboud, Remi Gaetjens and Andrew Mongiat (the 3rd-5th runners on the team).  Without these three guys stepping it up this season the team wouldn't have had a chance of placing 4th at Manchester or competing with the 2 time defending Class A champions (Scarborough). As captain of the team, I would like to see them place in the top 3 teams at the Festival of Champions.

Right now the team strength is a 1-5 runner pack time of 55 seconds, what is it like training with a bunch of guys who have the same abilities?

It's an incredible feeling training with a group of guys on a team like them. I remember when Jake Brooks and Peter Lepage were the top runners on the team and I would be trying to push myself with each strider and interval and even sometimes threshold to keep up with them. Now a couple of years later, seeing my teammates trying to push themselves to keep up with George and I on the workouts, is incredible still.

Last year you guys finished 5th in the state meet in Class A, what do you attribute to the improved success of the team this fall?

Our incredible results so far this season as a team is all the hard work that the team has been putting in and to Coach Crepeau and Coach Hesler for their amplitude of years of  knowledge and coaching, and to G-money's (George Morrison's) favorite song “Taylor Gang” by Wiz Khalifa.
