It's been five years since Thornton Academy has captured the girls Southwestern indoor track & field conference title. On Saturday the Golden Trojans will look to regain the top spot as the enter the meet as the team favorite. Leading the way will be standout junior Mia Taranko
the top long jumper in the senior division, she's got good speed as the third seed in the 55m, and is expected to score in the triple jump as well. Sarah Montano
is the top seed in the junior 55m hurdles, and is seeded to score in the high jump and long jump. The mid-distance squad will be looked to for big points with freshman Mia-Claire Kezal
and Annie Duong
. Kezal is doing the tough 400-800 double, while Duong has the 600-800 double, they will also run on the 4x800 & 4x400 relays for TA.
Cheverus & Gorham figure to be the next two best teams. The Stags have sprint star Victoria Bossong
pacing the Stags, she the top seed in the junior 55, 200, 400m. Senior Emma White
is one to watch for Cheverus, she is the second seed in the long & triple jumps and 55m hurdles, plus will run a leg on top ranked 4x200m. Junior Emma Gallant
is in just one individual event this week the senior 400m, rumor has it she is nursing a quad injury.
The Rams of Gorham will rely heavily on junior distance standout Kate Tugman
who is the top seed in the mile & 2 mile, and the second seed in the 800m. Evelyn Kitchen
will be one to watch for the Rams, the senior is entered in the high jump, long jump & triple jump and is expected to be among the top 4 in all three events. Freshman Emma Green
is top seed in junior high jump with her 5-2 mark, and Alyvia Caruso
has the top mark in the junior long jump.
Last week four records went down, and even more could be broken on Saturday. Westbrook senior Nyagoa Bayak
leaped 5-10 1/2 a week ago to reset her own record, she was ever so close to a 6-0 clearance. Bossong in the sprints is a threat to break a record every time she steps into the blocks. Scarborough's Emily Labbe
in the senior 55m hurdles will look to lower her week old mark of 8.59.
