Sam Johnston & Heather Evans claim victories @ Twinbrook Sep 11, 2010

Greely's Sam Johnston led from the gun at Twinbrook this afternoon to win a meet against Cape Elizabeth and York. Johnston took off from the gun, clocking the first mile in 5:26, the gap would close a bit but no one would be able to cloe the gap as Johnston crossed the line first in 17:24 for a 5 second win over Reid Douty(Cape). Douty led the #6 ranked Capers to the team win over #2 Greely & #8 York, as they tallied 33 points, York was 2nd with 43 while Greely had 44. On the girls side, there was a great individual race as four girls were packed together at 2 miles (pictured left photo by moosechili),  Cape's Kelsey Barton & Rachel Nichols, and freshman Heather Evans (York) & Kirsten Sandreuter (Greely). The freshman would show they have no fear as they pulled away over the final loop, and Heather Evans won again as she powered away over the last 500m to earn the win in a fine 20:29, Sandreuter had a valiant finish to try to catch Evans, finishing 2nd just 2 seconds back in 20:31. Barton clocked 20:41 to lead the Cape to an impressive team win, as the defending state champions had 5 of the top 7 runners. RESULTS | BOYS RACE VIDEO | GIRLS RACE VIDEO | PHOTOS
