It was a great 2012-2013 in both cross country and track across the Great State of Maine. Many of our seniors will soon be on their way to start their college careers both athletically and academically so we wanted to salute them one more time in this special feature.
The final day of the New Balance Outdoor Nationals saw Kate Hall finish 7th in the championship long jump with a leap of 18-8, the 2nd best jump in state history, while Ellsowrth's Aleta Looker ran 2:14.30 in the 800, the second fastest time in state history.
It was a great 2012-2013 in both cross country and track across the Great State of Maine. Many of our seniors will soon be on their way to start their college careers both athletically and academically so we wanted to salute them one more time in this special feature.

Day 1 of the New Balance Outdoor Nationals is underway. Tyler Bard of Lisbon won the boys Mile racewalk national title in 7:16.78. Bethanie Brown shattered the Maine all-time 5k best witha 16:41.84, finishing 3rd. Josef Holt-Andrews broke the 5k all-time best with his 14:57.76. Will Shafer of GNG was 3rd in the EE mile running 4:18

BREWER, Maine — As a sixth-grader, Teal Jackson wasn’t enjoying track and field. So she quit the Brewer Middle School team. “I was like, I’m done with track, this isn’t fun,” said Jackson. Junior Aleta Looker of Ellsworth, ME was the lone Maine representative for the US at the Caribbean Scholastic Invitational, she won the 18-19 year old 800 running 2:21.28. Check out more.

EUGENE, Ore. -- Senior Jesse Labreck (Oakland, Maine) closed out her Black Bear track and field career with a 19th place showing in the heptathlon at the NCAA Championships with a score of 5,423. (via www.goblackbears.com)
Barrington High coach Scott Turgeon figured his 4x800-meter relay team had a good chance at winning a New England title. What he didn’t expect, at least not yet, was the leg turned in by his anchor, junior Abby Livingston.Trailing fellow Rhode Island rival La Salle Academy by three seconds after the third leg, Livingston blitzed her two laps in 2 minutes, 8 seconds to lift the Eagles to the overall crown at Saturday’s New England Championship. The quartet of freshman Julia Zitzman, junior Julianna Portelli, junior Megan Verner-Crist and Livingston combined for a state and meet record of 9:05.49. La Salle also dipped under the existing NE mark of 9:12.16 with a runner-up time of 9:06.22.
Alex Niemiec was hoping to finish out his high school career by finally breaking the 24-foot barrier in the long jump. He almost got 25.
Kate Hall wins her first outdoor New England title as she blew away the field in the 100m with a wind legal 11.69, the time is a meet record. Hall was the runner-up in the long jump 19-0 3/4, breaking her Maine all-time best. Jared Bell of Deering won the shot put with a personal best 58-10. Nick Danner of Waterville was the runner-up in the javelin with a 187-2 effort.

Former XC blogger Erzsebet Nagy of Lawrence not only excelled on the track but in the classroom, and just like the track where she was champion she was the valedictorian of her class at Lawrence HS.
