Bethanie Brown of Waterville destroyed her personal best en route to the fastest 3200m ever run by a Maine HS girl. Brown covered the 8 lap race in a record 10:13.90. The mark took an amazing 5.19 seconds of the former record of Abbey Leonardi which was set in the New England Championship in 2011. The mark currently ranks Brown #5 nationally.

Brown had the benefit of running in a combined boys/girls 3200 that helped in her effort to break the all-time Maine best for the distance. Her previous best time of 10:22.41 was run earlier this spring. She holds the state leading mark in the distance now by just under 40 seconds, and leading the Class B ranks by 59 seconds. What makes the mark even more impressive is that Bethanie ran a 2:19 800m before the effort.

When asked about the race, Brown had the following to say "I almost can't believe it myself. I can't believe I have come as close as I have to the 10 minute barrier. 10:13 exceeds the expectations I had for this season, and anything better would be icing on the cake."

Bethanie is the defending New England & Class B champion in the 3200. To run this time with over a month before she'll be peaking is amazing, and could mean we are in store for a special season from the UCONN bound senior.

In the same race Edward Little's Lucas Bourget of Edward Little improved his state lead in the 3200m with a 9:30.70, the mark was 12 seconds faster than his previous personal best.
