19-11 & 7.01 Kate Hall smashes Maine All-Time bests at RI Classic
Maine Girls Indoor State Records
In just her second competition of the indoor season, Kate Hall had another record breaking day as the junior smashed her week old Maine all-time best in the long jump with a winning leap of 19-11 at the Rhode Island Classic meet. The mark improved on her US #1 mark. Hall also added a state record mark in 55m as she broke her state record of 7.07 in the trials of the 55m with a 7.01, before equalling it with a win in the finals. The 55m time is US #3.
Hall dominated the competition at the Rhode Island Classic as she won the 55m by an amazing .38. She won the long jump by 1 1/2 feet.
In the long jump Hall got off to a strong start with an 18-7 effort, but her mark was way behind the board. She was still a little off on jump #2 which yielded a jump in the low 18's. Kate never got to take jump #3 as she had to run the 55m trials but easily advanced to the final where she had a 2 inch lead.
On her first jump in the finals Kate fly board a soared out to a new state record and US #1 jump of 19-7. Hall made a slight adjustment to her mark before jump #2 in the finals, and it proved to be the right move. Hall hit the board and improved her lifetime best to 19-11. "The atmosphere of the track was unbelievable after that jump, everyone was cheering me on and the announcer kept telling everyone how it was the best in the nation" Hall said about her record jump. With the track buzzing, Hall had one more jump, she put in another strong effort as she jumped 19-5. What a final series it was for Hall, 3 jumps better than her previous lifetime best, state record, and US #1 mark!
Both marks qualify Kate for the New Balance Indoor National meet in March.
So what's next for Hall now that she has exceeded her own goals so early on in the season? "I 'm definitely hoping to jump in the 20's since I was so close today. I'm hoping to that sometime during the season i'll get a jump that's right on the board and I can get a lot of height" Kate said as she talked about what is next in a post meet interview with MaineTrackXC
Lack of preparation leads to a new state record? Well according to Kate, "Running the 55m was so much fun in this meet. It was a little hectic since the long jump was right during it, so I had no time to prepare myself to run it at all."
"I barely had anytime to change my shoes for both the prelims and finals, and in the finals I almost fell out of the blocks." Hall said speaking about her 55m dash. Maybe she should take this approach more often.
