207 Nationals Saturday Report

Newly signed Nike athlete Will Geoghegan toed the line in the 1500m final. He was in the middle of the pack through the first 400m, hit in around 60 second flat pace. In the second lap Geoghegan moved outside to better position himself for a move as he remained mid pack coming through in 2:04. At the 600m to go mark, Will started his charge to the front as he came off the Bowerman curve in 4th place. At the bell Will had moved himself into 2nd place on the shoulder of eventual champion Matthew Centrowitz.

"I felt great from 600m to 300m to go, but the last 200m I didn't have it" Geoghegan said in his post race interview with Flotrack

Geoghegan was still in the race sitting in 4th place with around 150m to go and maintained that position until the final 80m where several runners got by him. His final 400m was clocked in 54.79. His finishing time of 3:40.05 was the 3rd fastest effort over the distance for a Maine native, prior to the race he was the 10th fastest with a 3:44.88

Junior Report

In the junior girls 10k racewalk, Lewiston juniors Kayla Allen finished 5th walking 55:03.60, while St Dominic's Sydney Sirios put in a 7th place effort with a time of 57:07.96. (Photo above courtesy of Tom Menendez)

In the boys junior 10k racewalk, Edward Little's Spencer Dunn earned a third place finish as he covered the 25 laps around Haywood Field in 52:06.53

Iowa State's Dan Curts competed in the 1500m final where he would go on to finish 9th in a tactical race. Curts covered the distance in 4:03.10 after covering the first 700m of the race in 2:03.93. His last 800m was 1:59.17 with the last lap in 56.61.
