True tunes up for Trials with US leader at 1500m

Running in just his third race of the 2016 season, Cumberland, Maine native Ben True tuned up for the Olympic Trials by finishing third in the adidas Boost Boston Games 1500m at Dilboy Stadium in Somerville, MA. True finished in a new personal best 3:36.05, the #1 time in the US so far this year.

True worked his way up throughout the race as he was near the back of the pack in 11th place throughout the first two laps (1:42.84). He started to move up on the third lap as he hit the bell in 6th place (2:41.80). True continued to finish strong as kicked down the stretch to finish 3rd, just missing out of the win. His last lap was the fastest in the field as he covered final 400m in 54.29.

In his post race interview, True said he thought he might have been able to win the race if he was in better position earlier.

He was a bit surprised at his time, "On Tuesday I spiked up and did an all-out 300m, I hit 44.x, so I was a little worried about today." Having competition helped out a bit as True hit 43.20 for his first 300m of the race.

Certainly his effort last night bods well for upcoming 10k & 5k at the Olympic Trials where those races tend to be sit & kick affairs. True ran in the Prefontaine Classic 5k a few weeks ago where he ran 13:12.67, that mark is #2 in the US currently.
