Today we had a home meet against Greely, Falmouth, York, and Wells. It was pretty epic. Our score was 19 points and we had 5 girls below 20 minutes for 3 miles, which we were pretty happy about. Emily and I were really close and both finished around 18:09. We went out around the field together and then into the woods, where I almost ran into a sign and Emily laughed at me. It was nice to race together but kind of weird not to talk (and sing) like we do in practice. It was good having a teammate to pace with, though. After Emily and I came through, Kelsey (sophomore) came in 3rd at around 19:12, which was an incredible PR. In 6th place was Katherine (freshman) with a super speedy time of 19:46. Closely after, in 7th, was Hannah (junior) with 19:48, rounding out our top 5. The weather was surprisingly cool, after a very hot and humid Thursday. The course was also in great shape and very hard to get lost on (yay!).

On the boys side, Rand ran an amazingly fast time (course record) of 15:20. Flathers also came in the top 10, placing 6th in 16:11. Overall, their team came in 2nd with 48 points. All in all, it was a good race on both sides.

This week, we put in some hard work but it was really fun… especially our Wednesday run. We ran through the woods, which can get pretty confusing for people like me and Emily (who have absolutely no sense of direction.). Emily decided to let me navigate (bad choice) and shortly after entering the woods we veered off into unknown territory. It made for an interesting game though, as we pretended to be explorers conquering a new land (like Columbus). Eventually, after all of the bush whacking, we finally found the trail again. The fun didn’t end there though; Thursday was also a very interesting run. We ran through the woods again (but didn’t get lost this time.). It was all going smoothly until we came upon a fork, (separated by a clump of trees) where Kelsey somehow forgot to turn and went straight into a tree. She lied on the ground like a pancake and we all laughed at her. It was quite the amusing run.

Last night we had a team dinner at Olivia’s (senior) house. She made really good pasta and alfredo sauce, so we were all really stuffed afterwards. Then we talked about our first week of school, which has been extremely difficult. Basically, our daily schedules are: School, practice, homework, dinner, homework, bed. Although, I think that apart from being nervous about college stuff and having a lot of work during this first semester, senior year is pretty fun.

Next week we are going to an invitational at Hartford, Connecticut. It’s supposed to be a really fast course and there’s going to be a lot of tough competition so we’re really excited. We’re hoping to be competitive with Glastonbury, which would be a nice accomplishment and will give us some quality racing experience.

I think that pretty much sums up this week. Oh yeah, and I wore the bunhuggers today. They sure do hug you! Haha just kidding, but they are really comfortable and they made me feel really free. Yay!
