Marita Stressenger Weekly Athlete Fall XC Blog #6

Wow I haven’t written a blog in while (since Rhode Island I think?) Anyways, after Rhode Island we had a week off which was great for our team to train. Then the week after that was WMC’s, which is a really fun race. I didn’t do that meet, or the meet after in York, (leg thing). But I’m running in Regionals next week yay! Anyways, we won WMC’s with 21 points, which was awesome. Emily came in 2nd, Kelsey in 3rd, Catherine in 4th, Rachel in 5th, Hannah in 7th, Paige in 15th, and Caitlin in 18th. They took 5 of the first 7 spots (the other two were Adele and Michaela who both had awesome races..) and the average time was 20:21, which was really good, especially since it’s a tough course. Lindsay won the JV race (once again the Rands come in the same place) and had an amazing 1:27 minute lead. Marisa came in 4th, Brittany in 5th, Olivia in 22nd, and Emma in 47th. It was really fun to watch everyone on the course, and to see their racing strategies. The boys also did really well. Matt won with 16:15, running the second fastest time ever on a really hard course and Chris came in 6th. They were only 10 points out of first place (Greely won.), which was awesome.
The following week we had a meet in York. It was going to be a home meet, but our course was flooded so we did it in York instead. A lot of us had never been there before (we haven’t raced there since 2005 I think) and it was a beautiful course. They also had food at the end that looked pretty good too haha. The results aren’t up yet, so I’m not sure of everyone’s times, but everyone did really well. They looked even stronger than in WMC’s which was awesome and there were a lot of PRs. Emily won and got a course record yay! It was also some of the girls’ last races, who all ended on a good note. Emma Kast ran a 2 minute PR (and this was her first XC season!). The boys did well again too and Matt won (almost goes without saying lol). It was a great meet.
It was kind of weird not having a meet Friday, but practice was fun. We went through the woods, which is always an adventure. The next day we went to the South Portland track for practice because there was Saturday Morning Soccer at ours. It was kind of ironic though because when we got there we found out that South Portland had Saturday Morning Track. It worked out though and we could use the track without running over little kids who were doing a meet (they were really cute). Afterwards Emily and I went to watch the Maine College State Meet. It was exciting to watch so many talented runners (although we got lost on the way and only caught the end of the boys race.). Oh yeah and this is kind of random, but I watched Saw III that night.. and would just like to warn you all not to eat within about 4 hours of watching unless you want to throw up.
Practice has been going well and we’ve gotten in some good workouts. Regionals are next week and we’re all really pumped. It should be a great meet.. especially since it’s at Twin Brook. The season is going by so fast, but the championship meets are really fun so that’s cool. It’ll be great to race people from Maine that we haven’t yet at Regionals and States, and NE’s are at Manchester this year which is awesome. Yay!
