Marita Stressenger Weekly Athlete Fall XC Blog #7

Regionals was this week! It went really well and, despite being the last race of the day, the course was in excellent condition. It was kind of weird being the last race but it fun to watch the races before us (and there were some impressive ones!) Anyways, we ended up winning with 26 points, which we were pretty pumped about. Emily came in 2nd with 19:46, Kelsey came in 3rd with 19:56, Catherine in 5th with 20:10, Rachel in 6th with 20:14, Hannah in 11th with 20:42, me in 13th with 20:55, and Paige in 18th with 21:11. It was a great race for everyone and there were some huge course PRs. It was my first race back and I was so glad to finally be out there.. and I felt like superman wearing bunhuggers over tights lol. The boys race went well too; Matt won with 16:20 and they got an average time of 17:21. Yay!

Practice has been going well and we had some fun runs. Last week I went on a run and tried to go over the Portland bridge.. which was interesting. There were way more traffic lights than I remembered, and I ended up running circles around political signs in the grass while waiting for the cars to stop (of course then my English teacher drove by). Then when I finally got on the bridge it smelled really bad so I turned around and added on in Millcreek lol. Then the other day we were on the track and the weather was being really weird. It was pouring one minute and really sunny the next and there were tons of worms on the track (I wonder how many we squashed). And Emily was wearing this Tshirt that says “Boston Marathon 1982” and got annoyed because I kept asking her if she ran it (if anyone is reading this who talks to her, you should ask her).  Oh yeah and a bunch of us in band (Paige, Caitlin, Emily, and I) had some stupid band song stuck in our heads. Lol it was a fun workout.

Tomorrow I’m getting new shoes yay! I’ll probably end up getting the same shoes I have I always get Mizunos lol. That got confusing this summer though when I confused my old ones for the new ones (same color) so I guess I’ll have to mark them. Maybe I’ll write on them like on my spikes (Rachel, Hannah, and I got the same spikes so we wrote on them).

So this weekend is States. Get pumped! Lol I keep forgetting that it’s at Belfast instead of Leavitt, but it’ll be cool because it’s a fast course. It should be a great meet and there’s a lot of talent this year in all of the classes, which makes it really exciting. We’re all really psyched, yay! Oh yeah, and the night before Emily has this sweet team dinner at her house.. which is really fun. Too bad Erin’s not still here to own her in the traditional ping-pong game (sorry Emily). I guess the rest of us will have to take her on. Anyways, that and States should be exciting. Yay for a fun week!
