The postseason is officially here! The Northern and Southern Regional championships went off on Saturday. The North headed to Troy Howard Middle School in Belfast, while the South went to the Twinbrook Recreational area in Cumberland. Both regions produced close finishes and great individual performances. Let's take a look at the highlights.

Conference championships around the state highlighted the weekend in Maine XC. We had several of the top teams in the state battle it out at the KVAC Championships, while some of the top runners rested for the WMC Championships. A course record went down in the PVC and there were dominant team finishes in the MVC. Let's take a look at the highlights.

Coming off a 3rd place finish in the 2011 Class B State meet the Lady Vikings of Caribou have 8 of their top 11 back from a year ago, inlcuding top runner McKenzie Belyea who was a 7th overall. One thing is for certain Class B is loaded this fall with MDI & Camden Hills, but Caribou is a team to keep an eye on as well.

The Vikings of Caribou have been one of the best teams in Class B the last 2 years, winning 2 years ago & adding a 3rd last fall. They are back in 2012 with 4 of their top 7 including 2 of the top 3 from last fall.

Caribou & Bangor Christian Boys & MDI & Orono girls best in PVC Derek Veilleux Oct 16, 2011

The Caribou Boys defended their home turf winning the Large School division of the PVC championship with a 5 point victory over runner-up Ellsworth. Dan Curts of Ellsworth was the individual champion as he dominated the rest fo the field to cover the 3 mile in 16:23.8, the runner-up was Matt Eager (PI) 16:55.5. In the small school division Bangor Christian was the top team behind 4 runners in the top 10 as they tallied 38 points to finish 16 points in front of the runner-up, Orono. In the large school girls race, a short-handed MDI team showed great depth as they managed to hold off a great run from John Bapst for the team title 36-39. Individually Aleta Looker (Ells) continued her impressive running by crossing the line first in 19:18.8 well in front of the runner-up Mackenzie Belyea (Caribou) 19:45.4. In the girls small schools race Rowan Wilson (Orono) was the finisher across the line 20:50.1 as she was 47 seconds better than the runner-up Jordan Richards (Orono) 21:37.8, the duo sparked the Red Riots to the team victory as they tallied just 26 points, Bucksport finished 2nd with 55 points.

Caribou & Bang Christian Boys| Bapst & Orono Girls | Manion, Oldfield, Curts, Bulteel Derek Veilleux Oct 16, 2010

Dacie Manion (Old Town) clocked 19:07 over the 5k course to win the large school girls title. Freshman Dan Curts (Ellsworth) won the boys title, cranking out a 16:32. In the Small school races, Alex Bulteel (Orono) cruised to an easy win, clocking 16:34, while on the girls side Chelsie Oldfield (Foxcroft) won by over minute, stopping the clock at 20:41. Caribou boys dominated Large School race with 5 in top 8 for 22 points. Bangor Christian repeats in Small Schools race with 3 in top 8 for 40 points. On the girls side, John Bapst took the Large Schools girls title, with 3 of the top 6, to score 43 points, MDI had a strong race for 2nd. In Small Schools race, Orono edged Lee Academy by 7 points. Ellsworth Boys & John Bapst Girls win Caribou Invitational Derek Veilleux Sep 11, 2010

The Ellsworth Eagles showed they will be a force to be reckon with once against in Class B, as they captured the boys Caribou Invitational title today. The Eagles were led by freshman Dan Curts who clocked the fastest time of the day over the 3 mile course, 16:19. Curts in his debut race as a freshman was 14 seconds better than Caribou senior Christian Sleeper. The Invitational features 7 individual races, Ellsworth won five of them and had 5 of the 8 fastest times on the day. On the girls side John Bapst edged out Caribou to take the top honors. Bapst won 3 individual races and were led by race 2 winner  sophomore Adrienne Carmack, who clocked the 3rd fastest time of the day 19:33. Old Town's Dacie Manion was dominate today, winning race 1 by 26 seconds, clocking the fastest time of the day 19:05. RESULTS

MDI the defending champion returns their entire top 7. Caribou, Medomak Valley & John Bapst all return strong teams this fall.
