The cross country program at Ellsworth High School has been very successful throughout its history. Quite a few State titles and several Eastern Maine Championships have been won by Ellsworth, especially since Coach Andy Beardsley took over in the mid 80's. Since then, Ellsworth has produced some outstanding individuals, and even more so, extraordinary teams. In this decade, the men's team had a 3-peat of Eastern Maine titles, wearing the crown from 2005-2007, until they fell short in 2008 to arch rival Caribou. The ladies' team last won the title back in 2003, and haven't been able to really put together a championship calliber team. However, every year the Ellsworth ladies are looking stronger, and want to contend for the crown, as do the boys who aren't content on the 2008 season without it. They'll be a team to watch as the 2009 XC season unfolds.
