First Olympic Trials competes in Long Jump @ 5:10pm

On Friday former Lake Region HS standout Kate Hall will compete in the long jump. Hall who won 8 Class B indoor/outdoor long jump titles in her career, capped off her high school career last spring with the national record breaking leap of 22-5, that mark was her Olympic Trials qualifier.

Hall competed at Iowa State University during the indoor season where she jumped a best of 21-5 1/2 on the year. She qualified for the indoor Nationals but didn't qualify for the finals jumping 20-1.

Shortly after the indoor season, Kate made the decision to redshirt the spring season to get ready for the Olympic Trials, and in the process decided to transfer. Hall will compete for the University of Georgia next year as she was granted a full release from her scholarship at Iowa State.

Hall has competed sparingly this spring in her lead-up into the trials. She jumped 21-2 in the Georgia Invitational on 4/30.

Since being back in Maine, Kate has teamed up with her trainer Chris Pribish who helped her when she was at Lake Region. "I'm Finally getting my pop back and I'm feeling more recovered", Hall said of her training under Pribish.

Before leaving for Oregon she completed one last long jump workout at Fitzpatrick Stadium which went very well according to her Instagram post

Hall flew out to Oregon on Monday and had her final big practice on Tuesday morning at Hayward Field. "My run throughs felt the best they ever have before. My run through pop ups were 18 feet haha." Hall said of her practice.

Kate's plan for the rest of the week is, "Tomorrow is a day off, Thursday will be just a warm up and some run throughs, and Friday compete."

Don't count Hall out of a trip to Rio. "I have really big goals. There's no doubt in my mind that I can jump 22 plus feet considering how I've been feeling and how my training is going, so as long as I can get on the board I think I can do that. Obviously my goal is to make the team, but right now I'm just concentrating on Friday and making the final."
