Bangor sweeps team titles, MacLean breaks 2 records, Jackson takes down 200m record, while Boyer adds 55m hurdle record

The Bangor Girls & Boys swept the EMITL conference titles as the cruised to easy victories. On the girls side Grace MacLean broke two more league records with a 8.52 in the 55m hurdls & 17-6 3/4 in the long jump, Brewer's Teal Jackson added the 200m record 25.61, while Ellsworth's Aleta Looker won 3 events. On the boys side Foxcroft's Donald Boyer broke the 55m hurdles record with a 7.66 clocking.

MacLean a senior led her team to the team title once again with 3 victories on the evening. She started off breaking her own meet record in the 55m hurdles, as she ran 8.52. On the long jump runway she claimed another record, breaking the tie with teammate Tiffany Gray with a personal best 17-6 3/4 leap, the jump is state #2, and a Class A leader. MacLean closed it out with a 5-4 clearance to take the high jump. Grace will be the favorite to win 3 individual events at the Class A state meet next Monday at USM

Brewer's standout sprinter Teal Jackson won the 55m, 200, & 400m for the 2nd year in a row. Jackson the Class A leader in the 55m lowered her time to a season's best 7.32, the mark also is state #2. In the 400m the state all-time leader broke 60 seconds again as she cruised to the win in 59.79, her winning margin was over 3 seconds. Jackson running in her last race on the oval at Orono blasted a league record in the 200m, setting a personal best and state leader in the process as the clock flashed 25.61.

Distance standout Aleta Looker of Ellsworth was on her game as she swept the mile, 800, & 2 Mile for the second year in a row. In the mile Looker crossed in 5:18.43 a seasonal best, and Class B #3 mark. She ran a blazing fast 800m as she clocked 2:18.74 as she won by more than 10 seconds. She closed out the night with a 2 mile in 12:20.58 to egde Nora Hubbel of MDI by 8 seconds.

Other top marks in the girls meet came from Abby Reynolds of Bangor who vaulted 10-0 to move to Class A #2. Another ram that had a big meet was Casey Modery who jumped a Class A leading 34-8 1/2 to win the triple jump, coming into the meet her personal best was 33-9 3/4.

On the boys side Foxcroft Academy's Donald Boyer had a strong meet as he was on fire in the 55m hurdles as he clocked a personal best 7.78 in the trials, then lowered it to 7.66 in the final, he is .29 ahead of every one else in the state. His time also was a league record. Donald also added a win in the high jump 5-10 & finished 2nd in the triple jump with a seasonal best 41-6 3/4

Leading the way for the Rams of Bangor was Jonathan Stanhope would cruised to an easy win in the mile (4:41.76) & then doubled back with a strong effort in the 800m (2:03.98). They also got a win from Peter Manuel in the 400m (51.62). Bangor also got a win in the 4x800 running 8:38.73

Jeremy Bissell of Brewer had a great day on the jumping runways as he won both the long & tripe jumps. In the long Bissell got out to 20-7, his 2nd best jump of the season. In the triple he had a big personal best with a distance of 41-8, the mark is Class A #3.

Ellsworth's Dan Curts won the 2 mile with a new seasonal best and state leading 9:38.02. Curts now has state leaders in all 3 distance events

Ryan Wang of Foxcroft ran 6.74 to win the 55m dash, the mark is Class B #2 heading into the state meet.

Orono's David Frederick jumped 14-0 again as he won the pole vault. The Class B pole vault meet should be entertaining with 14-0ft Devin Burgess of Waterville up against Frederick,the Class B state meet record is 14-0 3/4 by Brian Johnson of Scarborough set back in 1986.
