True takes US 15K Road Championship

Cumberland native Ben True took the US road 15k championship at the Gate River Run in Jacksonville, Florida on Saturday morning. True covered the 9.3 mile course in 43:38 to take his first US 15k title, True has twice won the US 5k road title.

True ran in a pack with 5 others until the final 800m of the race where Ben opened up a small gap that was enough to hold off Bobby Curtis by 2 seconds. He passed 5k in 14:39, and held that pace through 10k which was hit in 29:20, the pace racheted down to 14:18 over the final 5k.

Up next for Ben is the World Cross-Country Championships in Poland, where he will try to improve on his 35th place finish from 2011. True has his sights set on a top 15 performance this time around. After that he will be focused on the making the world outdoor team in the 10k.
