True wins Payton Jordan 5k in 13:14.44, world leader
Ben True continued his impressive running in 2013 as he won the very competitive Payton Jordan 5k tonight @ Stanford. True held off the American record holder in the steeple chase Evan Jager as he stopped the clock at 13:14.44. His the winning margin .16 over Jager (13:14.60). The time smashed the Saucony sponsored athlete's personal best which was previously 13:20.53 from a year ago. More importantly the time met the "A" standard for the World Championships which will be held later this summer in Moscow, Russia
The mark inches True closer to the Native Maine 5k record which is held by former Olympian Bruce Bickford (13:13.49)
2013 is off to an impressive start for True as he placed 6th in the World XC Championships in March. He followed that up with a win in the Mt Sac 1500m last weekend, where he clocked 3:40.07.
According the the latest 5k world rankings via iaaf.org, True's effort has him #1 in the world
